California Iron Furnace / Compass Inn

SEPTEMBER 27, 2007

Our group visited the restored CALIFORNIA IRON FURNACE which is located on the Rolling Rock Farm near Ligonier, PA.  It was restored in 1966 by the Richard K. Mellon Family.  The furnace is located in a very beautiful park setting with picnic tables and cement charcoal grills.  A sign explaining the history of the furnace was on display and also very interesting.  We gathered some great ideas for our own furnace and park area.  After visiting the furnace we went to the COMPASS INN MUSEUM.  Compass Inn is a restored stage coach stop that is located along Route 30 in Laughlintown, PA.  We learned a lot about early american life in Western PA.  Everyone had a wonderful time!  After our tour, we ate at Ruthie's Diner.
